Our social heart

We are passionate about supporting the communities we work in, and set aside a budget each year to help fulfil this. As well as financial contributions, we also provide staff time, allowing our operatives to take part in projects that matter to them.

Teamwork helps to deliver homelessness centre refurb

M&Y Maintenance and Construction has completely refurbished a homelessness centre in Rochdale.

Petrus Hub offers a range of essential day support services to vulnerable people, where those who are homeless or are at risk of becoming homeless can access advice and support, along with more practical help such as shower and laundry facilities and a daily breakfast.

Denis Skelton, Coordinator for Petrus, said: “Petrus Hub supports up to 100 vulnerable adults every week and we are incredibly proud of the work we do. However, it’s fair to say that the facilities we offer had become run down over the years. We had planned to carry out extensive refurbishments to the bathroom areas of the Hub, which were proving to be very costly. Not only did M&Y carry out this work free of charge, they worked in such a quick and efficient way that there was minimal disruption to our service users. The difference this has made to the Hub, and more importantly to those using the facilities, is incredible.”

M&Y, with support from TP Managed Services, BSE Electrical, MCP and Martlews Property Maintenance, refurbished the bath, shower and toilet rooms, including replacing showers, baths, toilets and sinks and laying new flooring.

The work they do to help some of the most vulnerable people in our communities is inspiring. I am proud to say that this won’t be the first project we do with Petrus – we have committed to a new project each year to help Petrus deliver their services.”
