M&Y stepping in to provide affordable houses following Crudens collapse

M&Y Maintenance and Construction has successfully been awarded a contract with Wigan Council to develop Brackley House site following a re-tender.

The works are due to start in January 2021 on the £1.9 million contract development. The development will see 17 new affordable homes constructed in Goose Green, Wigan and are scheduled for completion in November 2021.

M&Y will also be working closely with Wigan Council to provide opportunities that make a difference to the local community – it is anticipated there will be apprenticeship roles available and a project to support charities.

Gill Kelly, Managing Director at M&Y Maintenance and Construction said: “M&Y are delighted to be picking up the reins of this development project with Wigan Council to help increase the supply of good quality affordable homes in Wigan. In recent months, we have helped our clients deliver their new build projects in these exceptionally challenging circumstances and we are looking forward to working with Wigan Council to do just this; we pride ourselves on approaching every project with the same passion, ambition, and focus.”

Councillor Terry Halliwell, cabinet member for housing and welfare at Wigan Council said: “Delivering quality, affordable housing for both existing residents and those looking to move to the borough is a key priority for us. “The redevelopment of this site brings it back into beneficial use and also helps us to meet housing demand. We’re looking forward to our partnership with M&Y over the coming year as they share our values and understand the importance of this scheme locally."
