The Old Court House, Wallasey
We transformed an iconic historical building in Wallasey, Wirral, into 21 apartments for social rent for our client, Regenda Homes, a Liverpool based housing association. The apartments are a mix of one and two beds, providing homes for 54 residents. Work began in April 2016 and the apartments were handed over in June 2017.
This was a complex job that required a sympathetic approach to preserve the historical interest in the building. We turned eight prison cells into two, one bedroom apartments. Using a steel frame, the old court room was turned into a mezzanine level, converting previously unused ceiling space into four apartments. We installed thin profile aluminium double glazed windows and doors throughout, and carried out roofing works, restoring and re-using the original finial. We brought in a new gas central heating system, distributing the pipework around the existing structure without compromising regulations or structural integrity. Each apartment was fully insulated.
